Rev. Ernest W. Frierson is the son of Mrs. Lottie G. and the late Mr. William J. Frierson of the St. John community, Shiloh section of Northeast Sumter County.  He is a 1973 graduate of Mayewood High School in Sumter, SC and a 1977 graduate of  NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.He was commissioned an Army Reserve officer after graduating from A&T.

Rev. Frierson did additional studies in education administration at the University of SC/Sumter campus.  In 1979, he became certified as a broadcast journalist at Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte, NC.

Rev. Frierson’s career began as an elementary, middle, and high school music teacher. His vocation continued as the director of Public Relations/Minority recruiter for the former Sumter School District 2 after which he began his second career as a broadcaster in radio and TV for over twenty plus years. He has served his community in various capacities, to include ten (10) years as a member of the former Sumter School District 2 Board of Trustees, holding different positions to include vice-chair.

Rev. Frierson is a graduate of Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, NC., obtaining a Master of Divinity degree.  He is a member of the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, where he serves as pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith S.C. Prior to that appointment, he served Mechanicsville UMC in Sumter S.C. Jeremiah and Mt. Seal United Methodist Churches in Hemingway, SC. He also served Wesley United Methodist in Florence and the Lynchburg Parish (New Haven, Warren Chapel, St. Paul-Elliott, and St. Paul-Wisacky UMCs).

Rev. Frierson is a first responder and volunteer firefighter with the Sumter County Fire Dept.  He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, Inc.

He is married to the former Diann Davis of Sumter.They have one daughter, Diandra and a son-in-law, Shawn.  Rev. & Mrs. Frierson are the proud grandparents of twins, Kylie and Khristian.

Rev. Frierson is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church.
